Scholarships

SCVA Honor Choir Scholarships


SCVA is pleased to be able to offer scholarships for SCVA student events. Scholarships will cover the participation fees for SCVA honor choirs for students chosen by the scholarship committee.

APPLICATION & RECOMMENDATION DUE: October 22, 2023

SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible, the high-school student must:
A. Apply and gain entrance into the 2023-2024 SCVA honor choirs.
B. Be in need of financial aid to attend.
C. Be recommended by their choral teacher.
D. Agree to allow SCVA to use statements made by the singer or teacher on the website/social media without use of the student's full name.
E. Submit a completed application by October 22nd at 11:59pm.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE
A. Applying student fills out the "Student Applicant Information" section of the application form.
B. Student writes a short personal statement and submits the form linked here
C. Student makes sure their recommending choir teacher has the link to the "Teacher Recommendation Form" linked here
D. Each application will be reviewed by a scholarship committee made up of choral educators from the SCVA board and SCVA community. We will notify all applicants concerning whether they have been granted the scholarship by October 30th in time for the payment deadline. Please do not send in the participation fee for the honor choir until you hear whether or not you have been granted the scholarship.




Future Choral Leaders Scholarship


The Southern California Vocal Association is offering scholarships to graduating 12th grade music students who show exceptional promise and achievement in the field of music and will be majoring in music in college with the intent to teach vocal music.

APPLICATION & ESSAY DUE: May 1, 2024

POLICIES & APPLICATION INFORMATION
A. The sponsoring choral director must be a member of SCVA in order to recommend an applicant. Members may nominate only one student.
B. The scholarship will be awarded to students who demonstrate financial need and fulfill the requirements listed below.
C Students should apply that demonstrate leadership, reliability, commitment to their ensembles and at least two years of experience within a vocal ensemble.
D. The scholarship funds will be awarded according to financial need and to the winner after they verify to SCVA official enrollment as a music major at an accredited collegiate program. The funds, given directly to the student, are designated for tuition, books, music or music materials.
E. The applicant must complete an application and write an essay of 300 words or less describing why they want to be a music major and submit the Google Form by May 1, 2024. The student application link can be found here
F. The student's nominating high school music teacher must fill out the confidential information form and submit the google form by May 1, 2024. The SCVA music teacher recommendation can be found here
G. Awarding of the scholarship will be at the discretion of the scholarship review panel (comprised of SCVA community and board members) and their decision will be announced by May 16, 2024
